Overview

We can recover hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydrofluoric acid (HF), nitric acid (HNO3), and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) or mixtures of these acids. 

 By operating under vacuum, the client experiences the following:

  • Operating at lower temperatures
  • Reduced energy costs
  • No vapor leaks
  • No air emissions
  • No environmental permitting required
  • Fully closed loop system

The use of vacuum provides for a low temperature, safe, and environmentally clean (no air emissions) system.
 

Applications

Mech-Chem fabricates each vacuum evaporator using the appropriate materials of construction for the specified application (i.e. wastewater, sale solution or acid solution). 

Vacuum evaporators from Mech-Chem Associates produces clean, distilled water with non-detectable metals including mercury and molybdenum, making the water suitable for recycling. 

Vacuum evaporators can also be used for the recovery of mixed acid solutions and are capable of producing a 50-60% wt% high purity nitric acid solution.

Evaporative capacities range from 5 to 1,000 GPH (Gallons Per Hour). 

All of Mech-Chem's evaporators are skid-mounted with the concentrate and distillate tanks included on the skid. 

Our evaporators are equipped with automatic valves and instrumentation with a user-friendly PLC control panel. 

The evaporators can be built with a conventional design for industries with steam, hot water or virtually any waste heat source, or can be build in an all-electric design.
 

Vacuum Evaporator Features


Mech-Chem fabricates each vacuum evaporator using the appropriate materials of construction for the specified application (i.e. wastewater, salt solutions or acid solution). This provides maximum corrosion resistance with a long service life and low maintenance.

​The vacuum evaporators are also equipped with NEMA 4X electrical components and PLC controller. This provides an automated evaporation system that is reliable and easy to operate.

Design, Engineer & Installation


Knowledge of Acids – Mech-Chem has designed, engineered, built, and installed recovery and reclamation systems for nitric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, fluoroboric, methane sulfonic, sulfuric acids and mixtures of these acids. Mech-Chem has also designed, engineered, built, and installed the chemical storage, piping systems, and processes that are part of an overall acid process.

​Knowledge of Regulations and Safety Codes – When dealing with highly corrosive materials, such as waste acid solutions, it is important for all equipment and systems to be in regulatory compliance and meet your company's safety guidelines. Mech-Chem’s systems meet OSHA and EPA requirements by utilizing NEMA 4X wiring and controls to handle corrosive environments.

Knowledge of Materials of Construction – The key to a successful acid recovery system is choosing the proper materials of construction. The right materials will provide the corrosion resistance that is necessary to provide for safe, efficient operation of the system. Mech-Chem has the experience and knowledge necessary to select the proper materials of construction, based on the specific acid and its concentration in the waste solution, and effectively use the selected material, both technically and cost-wise, in our designs.

Knowledge of CE Certification – Mech-Chem can fabricate and certify all our units to meet European standards (CE Certification).
